Catavino’s WritersRyan Opaz Born in in 1975 in Minnesota, Ryan spent the majority of his childhood traveling the world. In 1998, he received his Bachelors of Arts from Moorhead State University in Sculpture and Painting. Shortly thereafter, he moved into the food and wine world when he was made Executive Chef of Lulu’s Cafe located in Minnetonka, Minnesota. After a two year stint working as a chef, he decided that wine held a stronger passion altering his course to management. For three years, Ryan ran a wine ship with an incredibly large selection of wines from around the world. In 2005, he and his wife, Gabriella, decided to follow their dream and moved to Spain. While searching for a job working in a vineyard, he created this Website with the intention of helping others learn more about the amazing wines in Spain and Portugal. Gabriella Opaz Born and raised in Chicago, Gabriella spent the past decade in Minneapolis where she completed both her Bachelors in Psychology and Masters in Education. While not studying and cramming for exams, she worked as both a manager and server in high end restaurants where her passion for food and wine developed. However, it wasn’t until she met Ryan in 2001 that her desire to both explore and play with flavors truly cultivated. Now in Madrid with her husband, Gabriella has incorporate food and wine into her profession as an English teacher. Her classes range from teaching wine terminology to executives in International banks to conversation classes with computer programmers. When not teaching, Gabriella enjoy’s traveling, running and discovering Madrid’s several Tapas Bars. |
